Officially recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s hottest pepper in 2013, the Carolina Reaper has an average heat rating of 1.6 million Scoville Heat Units (SHUs), and can peak at a staggering 2.2 million SHUs—making it 4-6 times hotter than the habanero, which has a Scoville rating of 100,000 to 350,000 SHUs. 

Despite its intense spice, the Carolina Reaper also has a surprisingly fruity flavor, with hints of chocolate and cinnamon, making it not just an inferno for your taste buds, but also a complex, flavorful ingredient.

Recipe: Spicy Grilled Chicken

Now that you have your Carolina Reaper Pepper Salt, let’s pair it with a mouthwatering recipe: Spicy Grilled Chicken. This dish is simple yet packs a punch, letting the heat from the Carolina Reaper pepper shine.

Ingredients:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin 
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper 
  • 1-2 teaspoons of Carolina Reaper Salt (adjust to your preference) 

Instructions:

1. Prep the Chicken: In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, cumin, smoked paprika, Carolina Reaper Pepper Salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir to create the marinade. 

2. Marinate: Coat the chicken breasts in the marinade and let them sit for at least 30 minutes (or overnight in the fridge for a more intense flavor).

3. Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill the chicken for about 6-7 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

4. Finish: After grilling, serve with a side of grilled veggies.
